Xueni is a single mother who works for Japanese-affiliated company and loses her Japanese adapted mother who is Japanese children left behind in China at the end of World War Ⅱ. One day a poor peasant woman, identifying herself as her birth mother, turns up and stays on at her house. At first, Xueni gets bewildered, but her son takes to her and she is also softening. Beloved is the production of dealing with a parental affection head-on from the past to the present.
