In the Georgian capital of Tbilisi in the early 1990s, life seems uncertain and troubled due to civil war following the collapse of the U.S.S.R. and the country’s independence. Natia and Eka, who have just turned 14, have issues with their respective family. Eka, growing up in a fatherless home, feels rebellious against the meddling ways of her mother and elder sister. Natia’s home life is far from being idyllic with an alcoholic father and continuous fighting between the parents. One day a boy hands Natia a loaded gun, which drastically changes the fates of the two girls. In Bloom is a tender yet searing coming-of-age story about the girls on the threshold of their adulthood and at the mercy of society.
